Tender Heart Pet Rescue Success Stories

Leah

Leah was a 10 week old Setter mix puppy that Kevin found in a ditch while he was on his route at work. She was curled up in the ditch cold, wet, and hungry. He scooped her up, and put her in his jacket in his truck and she drove around with him all day. He even shared his lunch with her. That night he showed up at home with the little puppy he found. We took her into the vet the next day and had her checked out. She had a clean bill of health. We only had her a few weeks before a local veterinarian adopted her. She lives with their family in Green Bay.

Rosie

Rosie was a 6 week old kitten that a woman found in a yard during a thunderstorm. She was cold, wet, starving, and very sick. When she was brought to me her eyes and nose were crusted shut with puss and she could not see or even meow. She was very close to death. We immediately started supportive care and cleaned her up, got her warm, and fed her a meal.  We started her on antibiotics and eye ointment. She could not eat on her own, because she could not see or smell. I had to force feed her and give her special fluids under her skin to help her get well. Because of her illness she had White blood cells on her eyes, so she was blind. We took her to a Veterinary Ophthalmologist, and he told us, that with time, she would see again. She was with us for 2 months. During that time she recovered from her upper respiratory illness and her sight returned. She is now living in a home with an elderly woman as her companion and best friend.

Stewie and Rupert

Stewie, Rupert and their 2 brothers were given to us when they were only a day old. Their mom had abandoned them, and some people found them and did not know what to do, so they called us. We drove down to Oshkosh late on a Friday night to pick them up. When we got there, they were cold and hungry. We rushed them home and warmed them, and fed them. Newborns are very fragile and they need to be kept warm at all times & be bottle fed, and stimulated to go to the bathroom every 2 hours.  Day and night we took care of them every 2 hours. Unfortunately, despite all our efforts two of the kittens did not make it, but Stewie and Rupert remained strong. We had them for 7 weeks, until they were old enough to go to a new home. It was a great surprise that the young couple that wanted to adopt Rupert, decided to take Stewie too. It was nice they got to stay together!

Nelly

Nelly was an 8 week old Beagle puppy. She was brought to us, because she was born disabled. She could barely walk or get around, and her owner did not know what to do with her, but wanted her to have a chance at life. I brought her home and introduced her to my family and my brother fell in love with her. With our help, he nursed her along and gave her a chance at life. The day she went outside to go potty and showed up at the patio door with a baby bunny in her mouth, proud as ever, and wagging her tail like crazy, we knew she had a chance at a normal life! At the beginning of her life she could not even walk over a crack in the floor without trying to jump over it. Now she runs and plays like a normal dog. She is truly a miracle!

BO

Bo was a 6 year old German Shorthaired pointer that was rescued from an abusive situation. His owner did not want to care for him anymore so he was starving him and was going to shoot him. Someone who knew of Bo’s situation took him from his owner and called us. We drove up to Bear Creek late at night to pick him up. He was very scared and emaciated. We brought him home and took him into the vet the next day to have him looked over. Besides being skinny he was in good health. They did find a cancerous lump on his neck that we had removed. (That is why he had the scarf on in his pictures, so he wouldn’t scratch the surgery site.) It took us 4 months to get him fattened up and ready for a new home. He was a great dog, very smart and loving. We also found out that he was one heck of a bird hunting dog and he LOVED it! Bo went to a great family in Michigan with 40 acres and a lake for him to run and swim every day! He takes walks in the woods 4 times a day with his owner and is truly a happy ending.
